Students Excel at Tournament |

DSMA students excelled at the Third Annual Cereal City Open Tournament on June 5th. Alex Porte (12 yr old 3rd poom), took home a 1st place medal in Open-Handed Forms. Ian Bejster (12 yr old 2nd poom), won two silver medals with his two 2nd place finishes in Open-Handed Forms and Precision Kicking. Jack Porte (10 yr old 2nd poom), took second place in Open-Handed Forms in his division.
Rhyan Guthrie (4th gup) won 1st place gold in Sparring in her competition debut. Jenna Jordan (5th gup) swept her competition winning gold in Breaking, Open-Handed Forms, and Sparring. James Jordan (4th gup) won two gold medals in Sparring and Open-Handed Forms.
Carol Stimpson (4th gup) made her tournament debut winning two gold medals in Open-Handed Forms and Sparring. Patrick and Jenny Porte paired up as a Self-Defense Team to take home the bronze medal in a competitive advanced division.
The tournament was held in Battle Creek with over 80 competitors from Greenfield, South Carolina, Sault Ste Marie, Ontario and various dojangs from Michigan. Grand Master Hee Kwan Lee presented Master Dean L. Wainwright with his 5th degree in Hap Ki Do at the tournament.
This was the warm-up tournament for the 8th Triennual World Hap Ki Do Championship to be held August 5th-8th in Battle Creek. Competitors are expected from South Korea, Bahrain, Chile, Canada, Russia & Mexico as well as all over the U.S. For more information on this upcoming tournament visit www.ihfusa.com
